Ashland Downtown Holiday Shopping

Join the fun, festivities and great shopping right here in Ashland! On December 4, the businesses of Ashland Downtown are sponsoring a holiday event for the whole family.

10 am - Shops Open. Enjoy refreshments and special deals all day at participating stores.

12-5 pm - Free Trolley Rides through downtown Ashland, making stops at Tompkins Jewelers, Gallery 606, Ashland Town Center, Homemades by Suzanne, Henry Clay Inn, Changing Reins, Fin and Feather, and Cros. Brothers Grocery

12:30 pm - Ribbon Cutting for all businesses at the Plaza

1-5 pm – Book signing of “Secretariat’s Meadow” by authors Kate Chenery Tweedy and Leeanne Meadows Ladin at Changing Reins

1-5 pm – Visit Santa at Junk in the Trunk

3-7 pm – Ashland Theatre Open House and Silent Auction. Music and refreshments!

4-7 pm - Solo guitarist James Beard performs at the Ashland Theatre

5 pm – Second Annual Grand Illumination at Ashland Town Center

5:15 pm – Sign Lighting at the Ashland Theatre

7:00 pm - Silent Auction Ends at the Ashland Theatre

History of the Theatre

The Ashland Theatre was built in 1940 in downtown Ashland, Virginia, with 333 seats and a single screen. The architecture and furnishings reflect the late Art Deco period. The theatre remained in operation until the late 1990s, and has been meticulously restored over the last couple years. For those who remember watching great old films here as a child, or campy b-movies as a college student, it’s time for a new generation of Ashland and Hanover residents to enjoy the cinema and other special performances in this wonderful, historic venue.
